Indicator 3.4
Maintains a collection addressing curricular needs and learning goals.
Artifact 1
I run a Collection Analysis through Follett's TitleWise twice a year, at the end of the first semester and again at the end of the year. This analysis provides information about collection needs and circulation so that I can make informed decisions about choosing books that meet curriculum needs and interests. One of our school-wide goals is to increase the number of nonfiction books that students read. The comparison of the this year's analysis to last year's shows a significant increase in the number of nonfiction books that are circulated.
Artifact 2
Continuous weeding is important in order to keep materials and resources in the collection updated and in good condition. This is the report that lists all of the books that have been weeded from our library collection. The criteria for weeding books is guided by our school's collection development plan. A strenuous effort has been made this year to weed the collection of outdated materials and materials that no longer support the curriculum or patron interest.

Artifact 3
Teachers often assign student projects, in which they require several print sources on the topic. I work to find books and materials that support curriculum topics. I usually set the books up in a special section of the library, so that students and teachers can readily access the materials when they are studying that topic. This is a collection of books and DVDs that support research unit on World War II.
Artifact 4
In looking at the collection analysis, it is evident that our nonfiction section is outdated. With the implementation of the new Common Core Standards, it is critical that our library collection is up to date and aligned to support the curriculum. Most of the books purchased this year will fulfill these curricular needs. I usually place our new books in a separate display in order to highlight and provide easy access to them.
